The songs on To The Fallen Records Presents Rock: Volume I embrace everything from crunchy, metal-edged guitar anthems to emotive, introspective love songs. Active Army soldier John Dobbins wrote "Tribute to the Fallen" in memory of a close friend who lost his life in a land mine explosion that injured Dobbins and resulted in him being awarded a Purple Heart, while rocker and Army drill sergeant Merq wrote "Don't Try to Save Me" to describe a particularly intense Iraq mission that reveals a dark side of the experience—one that you won’t hear anywhere else. "Bomb" comes from heavy band MastaMindz, which features two active members of the Rhode Island Army National Guard who have opened for national acts Prong, Powerman 5000 and Static-X, and many more. The equally intense band 10 Fold fires off a warning to terrorist enemies on the brutal, guitar-driven track "Sleeping Giant," from what is described as "the first metal album ever to be written while in a war-zone" and was featured as entrance music for TNA Wrestler Matt Morgan. Rising star and active Marine Corps Major Mike Corrado contributes the poignant tune "Start Saving Me," dedicated to military spouses and families left behind while their loved ones are deployed overseas.
