March 10, 2010 - Larkspur, CA - Green Beans Coffee Cafes are located in some of the world’s most dangerous places. Just shipping product and stocking the stores can be a dicey proposition. But that hasn’t deterred the company from its goal of serving its customers - U.S. military and civilian personnel deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and on bases in five other countries - the finest quality coffee beverages in a relaxing, warm environment.
Green Beans Coffee Co. operates 70+ cafes, located exclusively on or near U.S. military bases. More than half are located in Iraq and Afghanistan, some on dangerous forward operating bases. Despite the daunting logistics, the company makes sure that only the freshest, super premium coffee beans are used to make the wide selection of espresso and specialty drinks that are enjoyed in a tranquil environment where troops can relax and feel at home.
“We wanted our cafes to be a place where servicemen and women could hang out and decompress, gather and listen to music, all while enjoying a really good espresso drink and fresh-baked treats like they’d find at a coffee house at home, said Jason Araghi, Green Beans Coffee’s co-founder and CEO. “They may only have a 15-minute break, but a good cup of coffee can help to recharge them.”
The Cafes have made a difference for thousands of soldiers on the front lines. One soldier stationed at Camp Echo in Iraq wrote: “It’s a taste of normalcy, a hint of our normal life, a smell that brings back a flood of good memories with friends and family.” Another soldier wrote from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan: “Drinking this coffee reminds me of home when I drink coffee on the front porch with my grandmother in the evenings.”
Two of the cafe’s most popular specialty drinks are the MOAC (“Mother of all Coffees”), which contains four shots of espresso topped with 20-oz. of house coffee; and the famous spiced Chai. Delicious teas, both high octane and calming, hot chocolate and brewed ice tea are also offered on the Cafe’s menu as are protein and fruit smoothies and warm, fresh-baked pastries.
In 2009, Green Beans Coffee introduced its CUP OF JOE FOR A JOE program, making it easy for anyone, anywhere to buy a soldier deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan (in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom) a cup of premium, fresh-roasted coffee and to have it delivered with a personal letter of thanks. To date, thousands of Americans have purchased more than 100,000 CUPS OF JOE for very appreciative soldiers deployed at or near a Green Beans Cafe.
Eight Proprietary Blends
Green Beans Coffee Co. roasts eight proprietary blends of super premium coffee beans, which also can be purchased directly from the company’s online store and at select retail locations. They are sold by the pound, in gift baskets and through subscriptions for monthly deliveries. The blends include Screaming Eagle, made of finest Arabica beans from Latin America and the Caribbean and named in honor of the famed 82nd Airborne Division; and the TAPS Organic Special Blend, named for Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, the non-profit organization that provides support for surviving families of those who gave their lives in service to America. A portion of sales of this blend is contributed to this organization.
